At the time when higher education is becoming a necessity due to the increased need for highly qualified professionals and cost of attending university are increasing faster, Germany is the only top study destination whose universities charge no tuition fees. A decision which came into power in October 2014, stated that all international students attending a public university in Germany would be free from paying normal tuition fees. Foreign students will only have to pay an administration fee like  student union fee, a public transport ticket, sports facilities, and a student travel card  which account to around €250 per semester altogether.

According to a survey that was conducted in 2018, 35.3% of prospective foreign students in Germany highlighted low or no tuition fee universities as the top reason why they would attend higher education in Germany.

Germany has the third highest population (21%) of people above 65 (source: World Data Bank) and hence, needs young skilled workers to get the economy going. International students after finishing their studies are keen to stay back at least for some time or in case of many for life. Most students stay back in Germany after completing their study course. This helps Germany fulfill the lack of skilled workers.

While there are student that want to stay back and work in Germany after their studies, we have Students who will prefer going back to their own countries after studying in Germany for free, they create goodwill for Germany and give Germany a good name in the international community, which benefits Germany in the long run (and for acquiring new students). In addition, students going back with knowledge of the German language are a potential partner for international collaboration with German companies.
